May is the founder of New Vantage Group (NVG) and is an authority on angel investors. He has been an innovator in mobilizing private equity capital and has over 15 years of experience with venture funds. He is managing general partner of Calvert Social Venture Partners LP and is an advisor to the Next Generation Funds, Solstice Capital, and Women’s Growth Capital Fund. In addition, May is a board member of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association and sits on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations. May has been the subject of numerous articles on angel investing and is the co-author of Every Business Needs an Angel.

NVG is a leading innovator in early-stage private equity. Through NVG, May pioneered the manager-led angel investment club concept with angel investor Cal Simmons. NVG has consulted to others on initiating similar efforts around the country. The firm currently manages venture capital funds, funds of funds, and three active angel investment clubs: The Dinner Club, LLC; The eMedia Club, LLC; and The Washington Dinner Club, LLC.

The Dinner Club concept, May’s brainchild, rationalizes the haphazard process of angel investing by turning it into a team sport. Rather than each angel striking his or her own deals with entrepreneurs, angels pool their money and invest together. NVG has joint ventured to form two new clubs, WomenAngels.net and Chesapeake Emerging Opportunities Club, and has been at the forefront in organizing and managing angel investor groups. Additionally, NVG has developed a national network of active angel investors and manages the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association’s Private Investors’ Network.
